?Sisters and Brothers, The following is a legislative update from TPFFA President Matthew Tomek: Cancer Presumption – The House of Representatives and the Senate have both unanimously approved the bill adding prostate cancer, breast cancer, and pancreatic cancer to the existing Barry Brady Act which will make these cancers presumed to be a job-related illness if diagnosed.

The Fight to Repeal WEP and GPO

(2024-11-15) This week, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 82, the Social Security Fairness Act of 2023. The vote passed the House 327 to 75. This bill repeals the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and Government Pension Offset (GPO) and allows retired persons to receive their full Social Security benefits instead of being penalized because they receive a government pension.

Local 1784 Members Represent at IAFF Convention

(2024-08-30) Nine delegates from Local 1784 recently attended the IAFF Convention in Boston. There were over 4,000 delegates, alternates, and guests from IAFF Locals from across the United States and Canada conducting the business of the IAFF. The IAFF Convention is held every other year and is designed for members to chart the course of the IAFF for the next two years.

Fire Fighter Cancer Awareness Month

Brothers and sisters, January is Fire Fighter Cancer Awareness Month. Tragically, IAFF members are constantly exposed to carcinogens on the job that make us far more likely to get sick or die from cancer than the average person.

PTSD Presumption Passes TN Legislature

TPFFA leaders across the state have been working on this priority legislation for many years.

Ambulances left waiting hours to drop off patients at Memphis hospitals, firefighters’ union says

(2020-12-23) Your union was recently informed that it won another arbitration case. This case was filed on behalf of Driver Darriun McAdory, Engine 41. Driver McAdory was suspended for 12 hours for an auto accident that occurred in June 2019. Engine 41 was struck by a civilian vehicle while enroute to a call.
