Danny Todd serves as the 14th District Vice President for the International Association of Fire Fighters and is the senior Vice President for the IAFF. Matthew Tomek was elected President of the Tennessee Professional Fire Fighters Association (TPFFA) at the Association’s Biennial Convention held in October 2021. As President, Matthew provides strategic leadership and oversight for the organization, representing professional firefighters across Tennessee while advancing policies that promote safety, fairness, and excellence in the fire service.
Matthew is a proud member of the Memphis Fire Fighters Association, IAFF Local 1784, where he has served as Secretary/Treasurer since 2009. In this role, he has been responsible for financial management, recordkeeping, and organizational administration, building a strong reputation for transparency, accountability, and effective labor leadership.
With more than a decade of experience in union leadership, Matthew has played an integral role in advocating for firefighters’ rights, strengthening labor-management relationships, and ensuring responsible stewardship of union resources. His leadership has extended across local and state levels, where he has worked closely with elected officials, labor partners, and public safety stakeholders to advance the interests of firefighters and the communities they serve.
Matthew remains committed to protecting the integrity of the profession, supporting firefighters and their families, and ensuring that the Tennessee Professional Fire Fighters Association remains a strong and unified voice for its members.
Barry Byers was elected Secretary/Treasurer of the Tennessee Professional Firefighters Association (TPFFA) at the Biennial Convention held in Nashville in 2019. In this role, Barry is responsible for overseeing the Association’s financial operations, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring transparency, accountability, and sound fiscal stewardship on behalf of Tennessee’s professional firefighters.
Barry also serves as Secretary/Treasurer of the Nashville Fire Fighters Association, IAFF Local 140, a position he has held since 2006. Through nearly two decades of service in this role, he has built a strong reputation for financial leadership, organizational stability, and dedicated advocacy for firefighters and their families.
In addition to his service at the local and state levels, Barry previously served as Treasurer of the Southern Federation of Firefighters, further expanding his experience in multi-state labor leadership and financial oversight. His work at the regional level strengthened collaboration among firefighter organizations across the Southeast and reinforced best practices in governance and fiscal responsibility.
Barry’s extensive experience, institutional knowledge, and commitment to the fire service make him a trusted leader within the labor movement. He remains dedicated to protecting the interests of professional firefighters, supporting strong and transparent organizations, and ensuring a sustainable future for the profession.
Colton Young serves as the Middle Tennessee District Vice President for the Tennessee Professional Fire Fighters Association, representing the interests of firefighters, EMTs, and paramedics across the region. He is committed to strengthening local organizations, advocating for safer staffing and better working conditions, and supporting legislative efforts that protect first responders and the communities they serve.
With years of experience in the fire service and leadership within IAFF Local 4238, Colton focuses on clear communication, collaboration, and ensuring that every local has a strong voice. He is honored to serve Middle Tennessee and remains dedicated to advancing the profession and supporting those on the front lines.
Jack Thompson serves as the East Tennessee District Vice President for the Tennessee Professional Fire Fighters Association and is the President of the Chattanooga Fire Fighters Association. With extensive experience in the fire service and proven leadership within his Local, Jack is committed to strengthening firefighter representation across East Tennessee.
He focuses on improving working conditions, supporting legislative efforts, and ensuring that firefighters, EMTs, and paramedics have the resources and support they need to serve their communities safely. Jack is dedicated to advocating for the men and women on the front lines and advancing the mission of professional fire fighters throughout the region.
