The US Tobacco Company, in an effort to assist Tennessee's professional fire fighters in their time of need, made a $148,000 donation to the fire fighters of Tennessee.  Thus, the Tennessee Fire Fighter Emergency Relief Fund was created in September of 1994.  The mission of the fund is to provide emergency financial assistance to full-time professional fire fighters in such emergencies as fire, floods, tornadoes, earthquakes, and other disasters, major illness or sickness causing financial hardship.  Since that time, the Tennessee Fire Fighter Emergency Relief Fund has assisted professional fire fighters through grants totaling in excess of $250,000.  The fund has continued to grow its assets through investment and fundraisers.  The two major fund raisers have been a charity golf tournament held each year in Murfreesboro by the Murfreesboro Fire Fighters Association and proceeds from the sale of Tennessee's IAFF Fire Fighters specialty license plates.  The office for the Tenneseee Fire Fighter Emergency Relief Fund is located at 5150 Stage Road, Suite 103, Memphis, TN, 38134.

The 2010 Golf Scramble to benefit the relief fund was held at the Champions Run Gold Course in Rockvale, Tennessee.  36 teams participated in the tournament along with 18 hole sponsors.  The projected funds to be donated to the relief fund from this year's event is $9,000.
