The Tennessee Fire Fighter Emergency Relief Fund was established in September 1994, made possible by a generous $148,000 contribution from the U.S. Tobacco Company. This founding gift honored the dedication and sacrifice of Tennessee’s professional fire fighters and ensured that support would be available when they faced unexpected hardship.
Since its creation, the Fund has remained committed to providing emergency financial assistance to full‑time professional fire fighters experiencing sudden and significant crises. These challenges may include natural disasters—such as fires, floods, tornadoes, and earthquakes—as well as major illnesses or other life‑altering events that place a heavy financial burden on fire fighters and their families.
Over the years, the Relief Fund has awarded more than $250,000 in direct grants, helping fire fighters rebuild, recover, and regain stability during some of their most difficult moments. This continued impact is made possible through responsible stewardship, investment, and dedicated fundraising efforts.
Sustaining the Mission
Two major initiatives have played a vital role in strengthening and growing the Fund:
- The annual charity golf tournament hosted by the Murfreesboro Fire Fighters Association
- Proceeds from Tennessee’s IAFF Fire Fighters specialty license plates
These efforts—combined with ongoing community support—ensure the Fund remains strong, resilient, and ready to assist those who serve on the front lines every day.
