Tennessee Fire Fighter Emergency Relief Fund

Tennessee Fire Fighters Emergency Relief Fund

The Tennessee Fire Fighters Emergency Relief Fund exists for one purpose: to stand beside Tennessee’s professional firefighters and their families in times of unexpected hardship.

Firefighters dedicate their careers to protecting others — often placing themselves in dangerous, high-stress environments. When injury, illness, natural disaster, or personal crisis strikes one of our own, the Emergency Relief Fund provides immediate, meaningful support to help bridge the gap during difficult times.

Supporting Firefighters When It Matters Most

The Fund has assisted thousands of IAFF members across Tennessee over the years. Assistance may be provided in circumstances such as:

  • Line-of-duty injuries

  • Serious medical conditions

  • Temporary financial hardship

  • Natural disasters impacting a firefighter’s home

  • Family emergencies

  • Unexpected life-altering events

The goal is simple: ensure that no Tennessee professional firefighter faces a crisis alone.

Funded by Firefighters, for Firefighters

The Emergency Relief Fund is supported through dedicated revenue sources such as the Tennessee IAFF specialty license plate program, member contributions, and community support. These funds are carefully stewarded to ensure assistance is available when needed most.

Every dollar contributed strengthens the safety net for our fire service family.

A Tradition of Brotherhood and Sisterhood

The fire service is built on unity, trust, and mutual support. The Emergency Relief Fund embodies that tradition. It reflects the belief that when one firefighter is hurting, we all respond.

Through this Fund, the Tennessee Professional Fire Fighters Association reaffirms its commitment not only to legislative advocacy and workplace protections, but also to the personal well-being of the men and women who serve our communities every day.

How to Seek Assistance or Support the Fund

If you are a Tennessee IAFF member experiencing hardship, contact your local union leadership or reach out directly to the TPFFA for guidance on the assistance process. If you are a Fire Fighter without a local you can reach out to President Todd Conklin at toddconklin@iaff1784.org

Individuals, organizations, and community partners who wish to support the Emergency Relief Fund can do so through designated contribution channels or by participating in approved fundraising initiatives.

The Tennessee Fire Fighters Emergency Relief Fund represents more than financial assistance — it represents solidarity, compassion, and the enduring strength of the Tennessee fire service.

Together, we take care of our own.

The Tennessee Fire Fighter Emergency Relief Fund was established in September 1994, made possible by a generous $148,000 contribution from the U.S. Tobacco Company. This founding gift honored the dedication and sacrifice of Tennessee’s professional fire fighters and ensured that support would be available when they faced unexpected hardship.
